Lights, music, dancing, dessert.
Derby’s 2025 prom on May 3 raised the roof of Doc’s Hangar, the very nice and well kept venue in Wichita where prom was held.
From the moment you walked in, you were entranced by the decorations and overall scene that was set by the Student Council class of 2026, who planned everything from the theme to the color of the tablecloths.
“It was my favorite school dance I have ever been to,” junior Isabel Kippenburger said, “most of the others were always boring and I’d end up leaving early, but this one was a lot different.”
One of the most impressive aspects of the dance was the dessert bar that stretched from one wall to the middle of the venue.
Mini cheesecake, cupcakes, cookies; name a dessert, and it was there.
“The prom tickets were $25, but I feel like that’s a steal for what they gave us there. I definitely ate more than the price in desserts,” Kippenburger said.
There’s one thing that Derby’s dances usually lack: the right DJ.
However, based on the reactions of the students, they did that one right too this year.
“The DJ played a lot of popular music, but they also played some not-so-popular songs, so there was a big variety. You could tell he was watching and making sure people were having fun,” Kippenburger said.
Prom 2025 was a blooming success. The class of 2026’s hard work did not go unnoticed by the hundreds of students who attended the dance that night.
As people always say, the bigger the better. One thing’s for certain, it will be interesting to see how the current sophomores choose to plan prom for the 2025-26 school year.
