If you saw me, you would most likely think that I have never seen more than two horror movies and that I hate fun.
Which is not ridiculous to say because it’s true. I’ve never really cared for the genre.
In theory it’s some of the craziest and stupidest fun I would have watching a movie, but I can’t enjoy it because the horror movies I want to watch are just so boring in comparison to any other genre or form of entertainment.
So in my search for a horror movie I would like, I found “All My Friends Hate Me” directed by Andrew Gaynord.
The only thing I have to compare this film to is “Get Out” and “Ichi The Killer.” While “Get Out” is a good film, the latter is definitely a movie.
So for me, “All My Friends Hate Me” stays in and breaks the mold of what a horror movie should be – creating suspense and mystery throughout the film to make your whole space feel invaded.
One of my favorite parts of “All My Friends Hate Me” is that it lies to you. The film is only shown through the perspective of Pete the main character and the film lets you root for him and shows you how he sees everything.
This isn’t what I assume would be an average horror movie because it isn’t traditionally scary. There are no moments that would make you jump out of your seat. It’s really just uncomfortable.
Which is mainly due to the fact that it’s main horror is social anxiety. The movie starts off as a reunion between friends for Pete’s birthday, but as things go on, it feels more like every other character is against Pete.
Every time he talks about something, he gets interrupted and no one really cares about what he says. All of this just builds up, creating an emotional roller coaster of suspense up until the end.
The ending of this film didn’t scare me at all; it just made me sad. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to reveal anything this film did.
The film is made in the United Kingdom and there were points in the film where I thought, “this would probably make more sense if I lived in the UK.”
Also with the context of the film, the ending kind of sucks. Overall, I think I should’ve been a bigger hater to this movie.
But it’s really hard to hate on something you want to like. “All Of My Friends” is above average, I guess.
