The Panthers, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, opened the season Friday night by hosting Hays, which finished second in Class 5A in 2024.

It was a battle of defenses, but Hays got the 22-21 win with five seconds remaining when the Indians followed their touchdown with a successful two-point conversion.

The Panthers play Campus on Sept. 12.
