While most students accomplish what needs to be done with an assignment and nothing more, senior Rorie Olson has been going above and beyond in her clay class.
Olson has been making clay pumpkins in her advanced wheel class for her teachers as a form of appreciation.
“I have been wondering what to do to return all of the favors that the teachers have done for me, so I thought that I would make pumpkins for them to repay them,” Olson said.
She has worked to improve her artwork in clay from as far back as from when she was a kid.
“When I was a little kid I always liked playing with mud, and I guess that became more refined as time went on. And when I heard that Derby High had a clay class I signed up immediately in ninth grade,” Olson said.
Her teachers have noticed her kindness and have praised her for her passion for clay and their appreciation to her teachers.
“It just started out as an optional assignment that kids could do when they’re done early,” clay wheel teacher Natalie Brown said.
While Olson has worked hard on these pumpkins, she doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“Whenever I work with clay, I just go with the flow and if I have a creative idea I just go with it and do my best,” Olson said.
Creatives always do their best to put passion and kindness into their art. Rorie Olson shares that kindness with the people around her and makes the world at DHS a little brighter.
