The past few weeks for AFJROTC have been busy ones. Between competitions and community service, they have not had much down time. The Derby High School AFJROTC has volunteered more than 3,400 community service hours since school started.

Col. Michael Dillard spoke about their most recent competitions at South High School and North High School. They took first place in two events —  the Unarmed Regulation Drill and the Armed Color Guard at South High and in the Unarmed Regulation Drill and the Unarmed Color Guard at North High School.

“Color Guard Team presented Colors at the ALS Walk to defeat ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and at Eisenhower Airport for the Honor Flight Ceremony,” Dillard said.

The Honor Flight Ceremony is an organization that sponsors WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans to visit the Memorials in Washington DC. They return to the airport for a big welcome.

For volunteer hours 35 cadets volunteered at Pleasantview Elementary School Parents’ Night Out.

“Cadets operated game stations for students while parents spent quality time together,” Dillard said.

Derby High School AFJROTC will host a drill meet today at 5 p.m., the first one since 1997.
