Scholars Bowl team takes second at Circle
November 19, 2018
Freshman Liam Dixon, sophomores Samuel Harrison, David Zimmerman and Eric Somers, and junior Alex Le competed at a Scholars Bowl tournament at Circle High School on Nov. 13 and placed second.
There were eight teams, and after seven rounds, the top four made finals.
“I definitely enjoy the math questions because these had Calculus and the last question, Current Events, because the last question usually decides the winner,” Le said.
Science teacher Rachel Hovey and gifted facilitator Molly Kysar coach the team of 22 students.
“(The most exciting part is) when they are going against a team that is also really good and our score is really close and our team has to think the fastest and buzz in the fastest,” Kysar said.
They have practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school from September to January. If they qualify for state, they will compete in February.
Sixteen teams will compete at the Derby Scholars Bowl tournament on Dec. 4.
