Teacher Turkey begins this week
November 18, 2019
Teacher Turkey is a Student Council fundraiser to help provide Thanksgiving dinners for struggling Derby High School families. Last year, over $2,000 was raised to help over 40 families.
“Our goal usually is to exceed what we had the year before, but I think we would be pleased to have anything over $2,000 because last year was our biggest year by the far,” STUCO adviser Sara Wilson said.
Bell ringers will collect change by the entrances Tuesday through Friday this week. There is also a Teacher Turkey Champion competition between department representatives and donations under their names can also be made during lunch in the commons.
Departments representatives include the following teachers:
• Jessica Fuller – business
• Gretchen Pontious – math
• Monica Swift – English
• Richard Holland – science
• Shelby Kraus – social studies
• Joy Sutherland – World Language
• Joanna Chadwick – K-building
• Paul LaBarge – PE
• Adam DeVault – music
• Amy Jones – FACS
• Jeromy Swearingen – administration
Fuller is the defending champion. The winner of the competition will receive a plaque or trophy for their classroom and a certificate for a pie of choice at Village Inn. Chadwick also promises brownies to her classes if she is the winner.
