Jones: Trump’s not leading America through COVID-19

Olivia Jones

Since the 2016 election, the question has been “how can a businessman efficiently run a country?”

I think when people asked that question, it was times like this that they meant. Times when America really needs a leader to get us through a pandemic.

Thinking about this, it’s been easy to say that Trump is not handling this well, is not leading us through.

Trump is worried about getting us past COVID-19.

It’s not fine. This will not magically disappear one day like it’s a miracle, as President Trump said in the early stages of the pandemic.

When the coronavirus pandemic was so bad that state governors shut down their states, Trump’s response was that we would be open by Easter, continuing to downplay what has killed — and continues to kill — thousands of Americans.

He has not promoted the stay-at-home orders.

Our president is making headlines on CNN and in The New York Times by encouraging armed protestors in Democratic states by posting such tweets as “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!!”

Then he has the audacity to float the idea of injecting disinfectant into coronavirus victims in order to help heal their lungs. He later said he was being sarcastic.

People are dying — at high rates — and our president is cracking jokes.

So, whether you are a Trump supporter— or not— things need to change.

We need our president to look out for our best interest.

What we need is for Trump to start taking this pandemic and his job seriously.
