Songs for a rainy day
March 24, 2021
This is a list of songs that I recommend you listen to when you’re up at 3 a.m. and the rain is making you numb. The songs are interpreted the way I see it, but of course, there are many different ways to see a song. What I wrote isn’t set in stone.
“Spring Fling” by Samuel Marklee
- About a relationship that ended up just being a fling and being really sad about it.
- The guitar chords repeat and have a distinctive tone to them. There are harmonized hums in the background that help with visualizing this song as a bit sorrowful. The music isn’t loud or too quiet. The vocals drag a little with each note.
“As the World Caves In” by Matt Maltese
- About the world ending and you’re sitting with someone you love as you watch it all happen.
- The beginning is slow and quiet and then becomes louder and faster as the world begins to end. The singer reminisces and breaths the moment in. It then becomes quiet and slow as the singer describes themself holding onto the person he loves and trying to make the most of their last day together. Again, the song becomes louder then fades as it ends marking the end of the world.
“Forever and the Stars” by The Lone Ghosts
- About dying and eventually being comfortable about it. Leaving the ones you love because of death.
- There is a beautiful guitar playing along with the song. The music and the vocals sound like it’s being recorded and played on a telephone. There are light drums accompanying the guitar and it sounds so pleasant together. The entire song is sung kind of like a lullaby which masks the deeper undertones.
“Bleed for Me (acoustic)” by Johnny Goth
- About someone who is codependent and wants that person to be with them even if it hurts the other person.
- The music sounds so soothing and comforting. The high notes are so angelic. Easy to fall asleep to. Sounds like goth angels singing to me. The song is kind of like a siren’s song — a beautiful melody that lures ships to crash against jagged rocks.
“teen romance” by nbmusic
- About liking someone and wanting them to be with you despite them being with somebody else
- The words repeat several times but it never gets boring because of the way they sound — very airy. Has a really nice instrumental. A song you could fall asleep in the shower to.
“Everything Would Be Fine” by Alx Beats
- This song has no words. I personally think that a song that is able to illustrate and evoke emotion is 100 times better than any song that tells you how to feel.
- To me, this song sounds like the hope and reassurance that things will be okay after a loss, a defeat, a breakup, a grave mistake, etc.
