Derby High’s Scholar’s Bowl qualified for the 6A State tournament. 

The tournament will take place on Feb. 12. 

Coach Molly Hamlett was very joyful about their progress thus far. 

“I’m very excited that the Scholar’s Bowl team gets to go to state this year,” coach Molly Hamlett said. 

Each member of the team contributes to their success.

“As a team, they are pretty well rounded because we have kids who specialize in each subject, which is really what you want,” Hamlett said. “…They are walking encyclopedias.”

At the end of the day, their speed will be the most important factor to helping them win. 

“It’s important to be quick on the buzzers and correct. If we can interrupt a question and still get it correct, that gives us a huge advantage over the other teams. I am always amazed by how many answers they get right, especially when they interrupt a question,” Coach Rachel Hovy said.
