National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

A mix between excitement and nervousness flows through the auditorium as students sit down on April 13, 2022. The National Honor Society inducts new students as a new school year approaches.

“I think the main benefit is having a community of people who are like-minded,” sponsor Alexis Golden explained. “So just having a community of support and to be able to reach your goals is amazing.”

The ceremony consists of key parts and details – crucial to the induction.

“We read off the names of all of our new inductees and congratulate them. Then, each officer has a speech where they talk about the 4 pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character’” Golden says.

Current members of NHS light the candles of new members to symbolically and physically pass on the torch. Each member then says the pledge, and shakes both Golden and Hamblins’ hand.

A new addition to this years’ ceremony includes AFROTC holding their sabers for students to walk under after they get their scroll and membership card.

44 new students held a lit candle while being accepted into the organization.

“I thought the induction ceremony was very fun and meaningful,” sophomore Ava Jenkins said.

“I think that the ceremony is a really great tradition and I liked that each individual was given a chance to be recognized and appreciated”.
