Sedgwick County Election Office visits DHS

The Sedgwick County Election Office is visiting students this week, educating them on how they can get involved with voting and registration.

With political tension in society the younger generations are beginning to be heard.

“It helps them kind of establish their place in the world and since they finally have a voice then they can speak for what they want,” sophomore Lauren Miller said.

According to Pew Research Center, 7% more eligible voters registered in 2020 than 2016.

“Once they turn 18 and they’re eligible to vote, it’s really important that they do vote because then their voice can be heard,” Election Specialist Shannon Reece said. “If they want to make a change it does start at a local level, they need to start voting with local elections, not just presidential, not just national.”
