Senior running back Dylan Edwards, who committed to play at Notre Dame, has one goal in mind this season.

Win the Class 6A football title.

“Just getting to state again and winning it,” said Edwards, who won a state title as a freshman and sophomore. “That’s my one goal. It’s pretty much it.”

The Panthers play Salina South at Salina District Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are 0-1.

Edwards also has individual goals.

“Just have a great year. Run for as many yards as I can for my team, run for as many touchdowns as I can, and the rest will take care of it,” Edwards said. ¨It’s not really about individual goals, it’s about the team.”

He got better over the summer when he went to camps and played 7 on 7. At one of those camps – the Under Armour camp – he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds and was named the fastest male in high school.

“Really just getting stronger in the weight room,” he said. “I have been working on my route-running skills at receiver. Who knows what I’ll play in college – running back or receiver – so both will help me in the long run.”

Edwards initially committed to Kansas State, pulled his commitment and then announced he was headed to Notre Dame.

“I chose Notre Dame because it just sets you up for life,’ he said. “It’s four years for the rest of your life. Having a degree from Notre Dame is better … it’s a better decision for down the line.”
