Macias busy with college visits

Senior Esteban Macias has been busy visiting colleges to weed out his options.

“I’ve visited KU and Carleton, and I’m visiting Swarthmore at the end of this month,” Macias said.

Most recently, Minnesota’s Carleton College flew him out as a part of their “Taste of Carleton” program.

“A few colleges around the country offer fly-in programs for under-represented students, typically POC or low-income. All expenses are paid for, from flights to snacks at the hotel. In order to participate, I had to write a few essays as well as provide a resume with recommendations, similar to the college application process,” he explained.

Macias was one of 50 other students chosen from 400-500 applicants. He plans to study a combination of sociology, anthropology, cognitive science, and political science.

Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, as part of another selective visit program, chose him to fly out as well. However, his top pick is still Carleton.
