All around Wichita and Derby from 95th to 55th families have started lighting up their homes getting reading for the holidays.

Derby had its annual tree lighting on November 21st and the festive spirit has only gone up from there.

“Yea, we go a little overboard (on Christmas lights). We kind of skip Thanksgiving, nobody likes thanksgiving anyway so we just go straight to Christmas,” Sophomore Nathanael Brewer said.

Holiday lights can bring family and friends together, as well as a little bit of competition.

Every year the city holds an annual Holiday lights contest and the stakes are never higher.

The competition adds a fun little spin on a holiday tradition to get Derby ready for the holiday.

Roads on roads of houses and businesses light up their own unique showcase to bring holiday joy. Anywhere from a tree in a window to fire station 82’s light up fire-fighting yearly showcase of the holiday spirit, there’s enough joy to go around everywhere for everyone.
