Girls varsity basketball delivered a blowout 55-28 win against visiting Newton on Tuesday.

The team was led by senior Addy Brown, who had her way offensively, scoring a game-high 22 points. Junior Jaden Wilson finished with 10 points. The Newton Railers were led by Amaree Henderson’s 12 points.

Brown gave the Railers the business defensively with 13 rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

“I think I had a pretty good overall game tonight,” Brown said. “Every single game I try to focus on getting the team and myself better so we can compete at the highest level in February and March.”

The Panthers’ defense seemed to push their offense tonight, with multiple players earning steals and converting them into points.

“Coach K (assistant coach Kim Carbonell) tells us every day at practice that defense leads to offense,” Brown said. “That has been a major point of emphasis for our team this year and is starting to become our team’s identity. I think defensive stops really fuel my overall game, so that’s a key point for me.”
