Molly Pourhussin is heavily involved in the deaf community, despite being hearing herself.

She teaches an ASL class at the high school, attends events held by the Wichita Association of the Deaf regularly, and has many friends in the deaf community.

Her ASL class recently came out with a new T-shirt design that says “everyone communicates differently.”

“All proceeds go to our Sign Language Splash event,” Pourhussin said.

The Sign Language Splash annual event is held at Madison Park in May. There’ll be games, food and a talent show.

Students are encouraged to share any stories they have in ASL.

The event is open to the state, and the ASL 2 class along with Katherine Murphy will be running the games.

“This will be our fifth annual splash, usually we have 200 to 225 people,” Pourhussin said.
