Sophomore Jack Ulwelling hit a game-ending three-pointer to send the Panthers to the Class 6A tournament with the 74-72 victory in four overtimes at Washburn Rural.

The Panthers led by as many as 13 points, but Washburn Rural outscored them 12-4 in the final 4:45 of regulation.

Dallas Metzger, who hit five three-pointers and had 19 points, hit the game-tying three to send it to the second overtime.

At the end of the second overtime, Derby missed a shot, and Washburn Rural’s bench players ran onto the court to celebrate, but .3 seconds remained. A technical was assessed and Kaeson Fisher-Brown hit two free throws to send the game to the third overtime.

Fisher-Brown finished with 23 points.

In the third overtime, Washburn Rural took a 66-59 lead but Fisher-Brown hit two free throws, Kaden Franklin scored and Metzger hit the game-tying three to send it to the fourth overtime.

Then in the fourth overtime, down 68-66, Metzger hit a three and Cooper Chadwick made two free throws.

But with 15.7 seconds to go, Washburn Rural made two free throws for the 72-71 lead.

That set up Fisher-Brown to find Ulwelling in the corner for the game-winner.
