New Approach to State Assessments

Most people don’t enjoy taking state assessments. They’re long, boring and use up all your brain power.

“I don’t like taking the state assessments because I’m not a very good test taker, so it just stresses me out a lot,” junior Emma Kelly said.

State assessments are different this year.

There’s a perk that will hopefully encourage students to try harder. If a student scores a three or a four on the test, then they will be exempt from taking their final. This includes English and math for sophomores and science for juniors.

“I think the test is a really good idea and an opportunity to test out of their final and to see their skills in different subjects,” sophomore Caden Koency said.

Others think that this may not be a good strategy and will be no different from any other time people take the test.

“I don’t think this will work because I think people really just don’t care that much,” sophomore Kassidy Jones said.
