Assistant principals Shane Seeley, Corey Gabbert and Nicole Perez are moving on from DHS after the school year to pursue new opportunities.

“I’ve only got a few months left and I’m ready for the next step. But I know there’s still work to be done here,” Seely said.

Seeley, who will be the principal at Campus, is looking forward to the experiences that the move will bring. Gabbert will be an assistant principal at Wichita Southeast.

When Hamblin was appointed principal at DHS in 2011, he knew exactly the person to be assistant principal.

“I had to hire two assistant principals because I was vacating a spot and another assistant principal retired. So I absolutely knew that I wanted Shane Seeley to be one,” Hamblin said.

They have been friends for around 20 years, so the two being together in administration meant so much.

It’s like a family.

“For probably seven years in there (the office), we had Mr. Seeley, Mr. Gabbert, (Jeromy) Swearengen and (Alison) Strecker. It was never a ‘I’m the boss, they’re my subordinates’ type relationship. I honestly every morning felt like I was getting to go to work with my best friends,” Hamblin said.

It’s hard for Hamblin to say goodbye to Perez, who is leaving after one year at DHS, Gabbert and Seeley, but he’s happy for them.
