Know a friend in need? Here’s how to help

Ashlee Henwood

Everyone knows someone who is struggling. It’s just the way life is.

Everyone has some kind of battle going on within. Sometimes there’s multiple battles at once, and it becomes overwhelming.

It gets hard and a lot of times, there’s a sense of solitude due to fear of reaching out and asking for help. A feeling that what might seem major, to others is minor.

But no one has to face battles alone. People want to help each other through hard times.

If a friend ever comes to talk because they need someone to listen and give them advice, here are five tips to help them”

  1. Stay true to the facts. Don’t give false hope or wrong information.
  2. Make sure once you give them advice, you follow up with them afterwards. That will help you and your friend keep a positive relationship.
  3. Make sure you are always being a good support system for your friend. They need you.
  4. Make yourself available to all of your friends. If they are talking to you, make sure they have your full attention and you aren’t putting up a wall between you and the friend.
  5. Lastly, always look out for that friend. If you see them upset or they post something on social media that might seem to be making them upset, look out for them. Go out of your way and help them feel better. You would want them to do the same for you.
