The homecoming parade has found its way back onto the streets.

The parade, which used to be held on the track, kicked off three days of homecoming activities on Thursday. The homecoming football game is tonight, and the homecoming dance is Saturday.

Families and friends assembled on the streets that the police had blocked off for viewing the parade. The students that were excused for the entire school day to work on their floats stood patiently next to their creations, talking amongst themselves and examining the crowd.

“We stayed worked on it all day, built the entire float in one day,” sophomore Brianna Hassell said.

Hassell was on the class of 2020’s float committee. The sophomore class debuted their street fighter float during the parade.

The junior float wowed the crowd with their Mario-themed float, complete with the blaring of the theme song throughout the parade.

Besides the high school grade classes, other floats filled up the parade.

Elementary schools, from Park Hill to Cooper, had their own floats, as did clubs, such as drama and the National Arts Honor Society.

The NAHS float was the retro video game Pong.

Senior NAHS member Maggie Smith was excited for the parade.

“I’m excited to get to throw candy at my community,” Smith said joking.

Homecoming candidates, decked out in their dresses and suits,  rode in cars. The parade viewers got a kick out of the senior homecoming candidate Holly Mills and Zach Bynum’s car, which honked an old-fashioned car horn.

Sports also got to participate in the parade with their own floats, and the cheerleaders tossed shirts and candy from their floats.

The football players ended the parade on a hayride, drawing massive cheers from the crowd.
