Derby defeated Bishop Carroll for the second year in a row in Friday’s 54-45 win, handing Carroll its first loss of the season.

There was tension in the final minutes for the first time this season at Panther Stadium.

But Derby forced another fourth-quarter turnover, and the Panthers took advantage in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

“We made a lot of mistakes,” said Derby coach Brandon Clark, whose team is 4-1. “There’s a lot of stuff we need to get better at.”

Sophomore quarterback Grant Adler scored the team’s first touchdown for the third straight game. He punted, as well, including a 60-yarder that got Derby out of trouble.

“Grant’s a sophomore. He’s only going to get better. The more experience the better,” Clark said.

Both teams scored quickly. For example, in the second quarter 20 points were added collectively to the board in less than two minutes.

Most of the game the Panthers held a nine-point lead. Their biggest lead was 16 points, which they held for seven minutes in the second quarter.

Senior running back Brody Kooser scored twice and also had a two-point conversion.

Junior Cade Lindsey and senior Jack Taylor both contributed to the scoreboard in the third quarter. Taylor had a 38-yard touchdown reception.
