“I was so surprised and happy to be nominated out of so many girls and then even more so to be homecoming queen,” Gutierrez said. “I’ll always remember this little girl running up to me asking for a picture telling me how beautiful I was and that she wanted to be like. It was the sweetest thing I’ve heard in a while.”

Senior Desiree Cortes added: “I thought it would be fun because my grandma was on the homecoming court and my mom was on the homecoming court and when I found out I was on it, I was like ‘wow. That’s really awesome.’”

The candidates were the following seniors:

  • Anna Schaar and Brady Walls
  • Gutierrez and Clark
  • Crawford and Ethan Pinkerton

“It’s super super fun and whether you’re king or not, you still get the exact same experience,” Pinkerton said.

Each nominee was required to have 2.5 GPA or higher, be in good standing with discipline and participate in at least one activity in the fall.

Clark and Walls played with the football team, while Mills, Bynum, Cortes and Craig performed with the band after the game. “I get nervous like super-duper easily, so I was nervous for the homecoming stuff and then usually whenever you have a presentation in class, you get past it and you feel good. Well, the nerves didn’t go away,” Craig said.

The homecoming game was a tradition that Student Council sponsor Sara Wilson enjoyed helping with.

“I love the traditions of homecoming and involving the whole community,” Wilson said.
