Playoffs start, last home game

It’s time for the playoffs.

The fifth seed Derby Panthers (7-1) host the twelfth seed Dodge City Red Demons (3-5) tonight at 7 p.m.

The past three friday nights starting quarterback sophomore Grant Adler has not played, junior Hunter Igo taking the spot behind the offensive line.

During the game against Bishop Carroll on Sept. 29, Adler came out of the game in the fourth quarter with an injury that turned out to be a little crack in his collarbone.

“But that’s not really what the doctors are worried about, it’s that my collarbone got pushed back under my sternum,” Adler said. “It got dislocated and so the doctors won’t let me play because if it gets hurt anymore and if I take another hit, it’ll cause problems the rest of my life and just pop in and out. So it has to get fully healed before they will release me,”

Although Adler does not plan to be out on the field anytime soon, he understands the change in having to travel more during the playoffs this season.

“It’s definitely hard, [last season] through the playoffs we always got home field advantage but it’s gonna be different. It’s just a new challenge and the whole team is looking forward to it,” Adler said.

With a group of seniors used to this journey to state, it helps younger players, like Adler, through the process.

“It definitely helps with an experienced group of seniors and they help lead us up to this point and then take us through it,” Adler said.
