Ten Derby students earn district band spots

On Nov. 4, multiple members from Derby High School’s instrumental musical program made the trip to Andover Central high school to audition for a spot in the district band.

One of the students who auditioned, junior Brianna Reeves was nervous about auditioning.

“I feel like the biggest rush of nerves come right before you audition. After the results come out, it gives you a moment to finally relax,” Reeves said.

There’s so many other musicians, so the audition isn’t always easy.

“It’s very intimidating. Everyone warms up in the same room, and you can hear the other people playing the same audition,” Reeves said.

Reeves made 4th chair in the flute section of the band.

Even with the nerves, being picked to play in the band is a great experience.

“I’m excited to meet new people and play music,” Reeves said.

Along with Reeves, 10 other band members gained spots in 56A KMEA District band.
