Orchestra concert highlighted by light show

Derby High School’s orchestra hosted its winter concert on Dec. 4.

Symphony orchestra played two songs while chamber orchestra played three songs.

It was the ending of the show that wowed the audience the most. Drama teacher Richard Shultz was behind the light show that played during Sarajevo. The orchestras combined to play Sarajevo, famously performed by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Besides their standard instruments, the orchestra played along to a bass guitar, drums, and electric guitar.

“The light show really put the concert together,” freshman cello player Erica Jernigan said.

The chamber orchestra also got to perform with a band soloist for one of their pieces. Another interesting fact about the concert was both orchestras played one part of a two-part piece.

The chamber orchestra is set to perform its winter concert again on Dec. 10.
