Derby played their first home game after the first two games of the season loses away at McPherson and Maize.

“I think the first two games that we lost actually kind of helped us know what to fix or what to get better,” senior Bryant Mocaby said.

Tuesday at home against the Salina Central Mustangs (3-1) the Derby Panthers (1-2) couldn’t catch a break until the fourth quarter.

The Panthers behind all game until a breakthrough at the end of the third with a tied game at 48 points. They don’t give up the lead, winning 73-65.

The Panthers play in its last home game before the new year against rivals Campus Colts.

“I didn’t even know they were the rivals until people (have) been talking about it, but hopefully get the W for sure and beat them, that would be great,” Mocaby said.
