Q&A with Olivia DePew

Kaitlyn Sanders, Yearbook Sportswriter

Olivia DePew is one of five seniors on the softball team looking to get back to state for the eighth year in a row before heading to Butler Community College.

Q: How long have you been playing softball?

A: I’ve been playing softball since I was about six or seven years old.

Q: Have you played for any club teams?

A: Yes I played for Tulsa Elite 316, so we’re like the Wichita branch of Tulsa Elite.

Q: Your sister plays softball, playing the same sport do you guys bond over it?

A: Yes, We definitely have a lot to talk over like she kind of looks up to me so I can giver her pointers if I need to, it definitely brings us closer.

Q: Is there a rivalry between you guys?

A: No I wouldn’t say a rivalry because we’re two different styles of players, she’s an outfield slapper and I’m a pitcher and a bigger hitter than she is, she can do lots of stuff as a slapper.

Q: What are you looking forward to at Butler next year?

A: I’m definitely looking forward to getting a lot better, you can always grow to improve. I’m just really excited, they have a really good softball program.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time when your not playing softball?

A: In my free time usually I go work on drills on softball but sometimes I’ll just hang out with friends and go to the movies.

Q: What do you think about the teams chances in state this year?

A: If we get past regionals this year it’ll be our eighth time in a row we’ll be to state, we’re definitely at the top this year, we have two losses so we just got to keep working hard and hopefully we’ll get past the first round.

Q: What will you miss most about the team?

A: I’ll definitely miss all the laughs. We definitely work hard but there are some times where we have lots of moments where we get really off task. So I’m going to miss some of those cause the girls always get along. I’m just going to miss the bond I guess.
