Prom more about preparation than event

Jordan Riebel

Prom seems like such a fun, exciting dance, but in my opinion it wasn’t as fun and exciting as it seems.

The preparation was more exciting than the dance itself. I went over to my friend’s house with two other girls that were in our group. We spent over three hours doing our hair and makeup.

We were jamming out to music and talking about things that were going on in our lives.

Around 5 p.m. we all went to downtown Wichita to a park in front of the old Spaghetti Warehouse. There were so many homeless people just hanging out on the benches while we were taking photos. A few of them actually complimented us and said we looked nice.

The photos were why we wanted to get so dolled up — to feel pretty and be able to post the pictures on social media.

After pictures we went to dinner. My dress was already tight enough on my waist, so I didn’t really eat as much because I thought that if I did, I’d break my dress.

We showed up to the dance around 8 p.m., and I was only there for five minutes before I got bored.

No one was really dancing, so we just took pictures with people and walked around.

The music was horrible. The DJ barely played any music that people liked until the very end of the dance when people started leaving.

What my group did after prom was so much better than the actual dance. I had more fun hanging out with them in jeans and a T-shirt than at a dance in a dress.
