Student’s shaved head pushes boundaries

Mulvane sophomore Savannah Hallock — a former Derby student — recently shaved her head.

She’s received lots of backlash, such as name calling like “cancer patient” or “chemo.” But the support that she’s gotten from friends and even strangers, makes her so much more happy about her decision.

“I wanted a big change and I think a woman shaving her head pushes social boundaries and gender roles,” Hallock said.

She also loves that shaving her head makes her different and unique from everybody else.

Sometimes Hallock regrets shaving her head and misses long hair, but it’s not as big of a deal to her as it would be to many other people.

She simply thinks of it a haircut that will eventually grow back.
