One in eight women in America are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Chances are, someone you may know family or not, could have a relation to breast cancer in some way.
Five out of five staff members at Derby High School all know someone who has had breast cancer.
“I’ve had a couple of family members who’ve had it and some friends who’ve had it,” Natalie Carroll said
Breast cancer is more common in women, but did you know that men can also get breast cancer?
The staff’s average on how common they thought it is for men to get breast cancer was fifteen percent.
In reality, men getting breast cancer is extremely rare, with the percentage less than one percent.
Breast cancer is not just something women need to be aware of, but also men.
It’s important to be aware of this type of cancer, not just for yourself but also for the ones around you.
“I think it’s very important. It just shows that people want to go above and beyond to an important cause to make it aware” Tonya Johnston said.
