Football improves to 9-0 with playoff win

Clashing helmets, cheering clowns and costumes all were part of Derby’s 41-7 win over Lawrence in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs on Friday.

Derby is 9-0 and will play host to Dodge City on Nov. 2.

Within the first quarter Derby scored three touchdowns for the 21-0 lead.

Jacob Karsak scored two of the touchdowns on passes from quarterback Hunter Igo, while running back Tre Washington scored the other.

In the second quarter, Derby added three more touchdowns and had a 41-0 lead as scarecrows, cats and goblins cheered from the student section.

Lawrence scored its first touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the Lions’ season ended with the loss.
