The past week at Derby High was a fundraiser called “Teacher Turkey.” The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for Thanksgiving meals to help families in need.

“It helps feed people who need it most,” Lauren Davis said.

The goal was to raise $2,000 and as of Friday morning, about $900 had been raised. If every student would have brought in at least $1, there would have been well over $2,000 raised.

“I think more people should participate,” Abbey Simonsen said.

Still, the amount of money raised will benefit families.

“I’m glad we even raised some money because it is for a good cause,” Camille Pinkerton said.

By homeroom, $2,215 was raised, a school record by more than $600.

In the homeroom competition, Pat Paske’s class won with $151 donated, Morgan Hughes’ was second with $132 and Logan Posson’s was $113.

In the Teacher Turkey Championship, Jessica Fuller was the champ with $664.

We will be able to help over 40 families have a fantastic Thanksgiving because of your generosity!” teacher Sara Wilson wrote in an email to staff.
