Football’s back in the Class 6A title game

What have you done four times in high school?

The 2019 seniors, who have been playing football since their freshmen seasons, have gone to the Class 6A state championship every year. Out of those four they have won twice.

For the seniors, this is pretty special to be able to go one more time together. They have put in a lot of work to get where they are, and they are not just “antics.”

“We put in endless hours of work,” senior Bryce Westmoreland said.

This is Derby’s ninth time in the finals. Out of those nine times, the Panthers have won four titles. Derby’s first title was in 1994. The Panthers won again in 2013, 2015, and 2016.

This season, Derby is 12-0 and heading to the title game again. It is at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Emporia State.

The Panthers are playing Blue Valley North, which beat Derby in 2017.

“We get a rematch of last year’s game,” Westmoreland said.
