The Class 6A state champion football team was met with cheering fans following its return to Derby High after a big win on Saturday.

It was the one day of the week that winter wasn’t playing its role and the temperature was moderate with no clouds and the sun shining on everything.

The game started at 1 p.m., but fans were already tailgating, filling up the parking lot. People started picking up their stuff and heading into the stadium before the game started to get a good seat.

Blue Valley North scored first on a 26-yard pass at the end of the first quarter. Derby struck back with a seven-yard run by Tre Washington for a touchdown.

At the half it was 10-all.

Washington added a three-yard touchdown and a 59-yard touchdown run for the 24-10 lead.

BV North threw for a touchdown and then failed on an attempted two-point conversion.

Derby ran off the final 5:07 of the game to seal the victory.

Deby has won four state titles in the last six seasons.

Derby finished with a 13-0 record and, according to MaxPreps, Derby is ranked No. 93 in the nation.
