Going to Prom? It’s never too early to shop

Prom is a few months away but time doesn’t mean anything in the dress world.

The beginning of January is when some girls start buying their prom dresses, and the selection dwindles from there.

The longer you wait, the less you’ll have to choose from.

There aren’t as many big-name dress stores in the Wichita-area, unlike neighboring states. So some girls actually travel in hopes of being successful in securing their prom dress before everyone else.

Serendipity is a popular store in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Prom is in the spring and that usually means pastels and floral prints; however, bold colors are still just as popular.

I think black and red might be the most popular actually, because girls can pair a dozen different accent colors with black and they will still match.

Buying new dresses can be fun but also expensive.

Another way to find a dress and not have to pay full price for it is to buy a used dress. Usually these used dresses have only been worn once because they are for dances like this.

A good way to track down these used dresses is through social media and your peers or even recent high school graduates.

Some girls even go the crafty route and make their own dress or pieces of their dress. This could save you money if you have the resources and know what you are doing.

“I handmade the top to my dress because at the Dillard’s clearance store some of them didn’t come with the full dress, so my grandma and I made it,” senior Brianna Reeves said.
