Twelve students from Derby High Orchestra performed Tuesday at Southwestern College.

This festival brings together nominated students from a variety of schools in the area including Derby, Arkansas City, and El Dorado.

Leaving at 7 a.m. and traveling to Winfield, the students spent their day practicing a number a pieces that were going to be performed later that night.

This year, Derby shared the concert with the honor orchestra. They opened the concert with works by Vivaldi, Warlock, and others. They then performed Mozart’s “Serenata Notturna” and “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”.

The Philharmonic orchestra of DHS traveled later that day to perform as a guest orchestra.

DHS orchestra is the second orchestra to perform as a guest at this event.

“While it was a long and cold day, they had the opportunity to rehearse and perform works composed by that genius named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,” instructor Wesley Despain said.
