The baseball team entered its Class 6A regional as the No. 13 seed with a 7-9 record.

And ended up getting two wins and advancing to the state tournament.

“It was shocking that we came in being the underdogs in both games and ended up blowing both teams out,” senior Langdon Moore said. “These wins were huge because I think it showed all of us how good we could be when we all came together.”

The Panthers played No. 4 seed Gardner-Edgerton in the semifinal game.

The Panthers upset the host team with an 8-0 win to advance to the regional championship against Manhattan, the fifth seed.

Derby beat Manhattan 11-3.

The Panthers will play in the state tournament at Hoglund Stadium in Lawrence on May 23- 24.
