Makeup’s a form of self-expression

Makeup can be seen as a form of self-expression, especially while teenagers are figuring themselves out.

Your makeup is unique to who you are – whether it’s eyeshadow with crazy colors or just mascara and a little bit of concealer.

Makeup isn’t always meant to impress others.

People wear makeup for different reasons, ranging from covering something they dislike to enjoyment.

“I love wearing it because it shows another way of art,” junior Lily Spendlove said.

To senior Monaye Sanders, makeup can be worn for anything – dances, dinner, school – a special occasion is unnecessary.

“Makeup, to me, is art,” Sanders said.

Makeup is also something that people are always going to comment on.

“They used to comment about how wild my makeup was and I used to take it to heart, but now they love it,” Spendlove said.

Along with mean remarks come discouragement and hesitation about wearing makeup – but it doesn’t always have to affect you.

“No, people’s words will never change my view on makeup,” Sanders said. “I can’t make everyone happy, so why don’t I make myself happy? Makeup makes me happy.”

Makeup is more than just a fashion statement  – it’s a way of expression that can help people be more comfortable with themselves.
