Update: Lockout at Derby High school ends during homeroom.

Around 3:00 p.m. Principal Tim Hamblin announced that the suspect was caught and the last 10 minutes of school could continue on as normal.

Derby High School went into lockout today at approximately 12:20 p.m.

Classes continued in the school, but students were unable to leave the building.

“I was not able to go to Derby North to observe (digital studies teacher Kristen) Wells, which puts me behind on a paper that’s due this week,” junior Kiley Hale said.

DHS sent an official email to staff and parents informing them of the lockout status.

“I like to be told because ‘secrets don’t make friends,’” senior Breanna Mehringer said.

The school will remain on lockout until the Derby Police Department informs them that the threat has passed.
