With 34 days until Christmas, Derby held its 14th annual tree lighting on November 21.
Christmas music played on speakers heard throughout the park, with cookies crunching, kettle
corn popping and hot chocolate steaming in the rainy, 39-degree weather.
The event started with Mayor Randy White speaking and starting the 10-second countdown.
Local families joined in the countdown and the tree was lit with a multitude of colors for the
holiday season.
Afterward, Girl Scouts distributed ornament craft kits — kids were given the choice of a Santa,
reindeer, or snowman to create and take home.
Families were invited inside for Christmas pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Collecting stations were placed in both buildings for Toys for Tots and Operation Holiday.
