Panthers boys, girls basketball opens season fast

The Derby boys basketball team has found its way quickly to an impressive 4-0 start. It is the Panthers’ best start since 2012-13 when they started 8-0.

The Panthers have been lead by a plethora of seniors, juniors and sophomores who all play valuable roles in the defensive pressure and constant energy that has been put on display.

The Panthers have wins over McPherson and Arkansas City, who are two of the best teams in Class 5A, while East and Maize who are two of the top teams in 6A and 5A, respectively.

The girls basketball team is 3-1 and has gotten back to its winning ways after losing a tough game to McPherson 49-40, which ended its 27-game home winning streak.

But with a win over Kapaun at WSU in the AVCTL vs. City League challenge games and another win over Maize on Tuesday, the girls are back to another fast start.
