DHS forensics update

Forensics competed at their first tournament of the season on Jan. 25 at Northwest. The following students placed.

 

Informative:

  • Senior Dan Archer placed first and qualified for state. His informative is on fun facts. 
  • Sophomore Chloe Johnson placed second and qualified for state. Her speech was about glasses and how she always wanted them until she got them. “I was so excited to hear that I got second place because I was just hoping that I would qualify for state this year, and it was amazing to do it at the first tournament of the season,” Johnson said.
  • Senior Sam Guy placed fourth.

 

US Extemp:

  • Archer placed second and qualified for state.
  • Johnson placed fifth.

 

International Extemp:

  • Junior Sean Wentling placed second and qualified for state.
  • Sophomore Kevin Phetsomphou placed sixth.

 

Oration:

  • Junior Jack Sallman placed second and qualified for state. Sallman spoke about the importance of kindness. “I struggled with trauma and mental health, so my youth pastor’s unconditional love and kindness inspired me,” he said.
  • Sophomore Jake Hardin placed fourth.

 

Impromptu:

  • Archer placed first and qualified for state.
  • Wentling placed second and qualified for state.

 

Poetry

  • Junior Elliauna Casanova placed sixth.

 

The forensics team will be competing again at Augusta this weekend.
