COVID-19 forces families to make changes

The list of cancelations due to the coronavirus keeps growing bigger each day, but for some families it will not cancel their Easter.

Though there will be bunnies and eggs there are still a lot of changes to the Easter that many people are used to.

“It will be different because of the situation happening right now in the world,” freshman Lani Schnelle said.

Easter traditions may have to be broken this year.

“We usually have a family get together, cook ham and turkey, play games and have an Easter egg hunt,” freshman Talia Ransom said. “ Now we won’t be having the egg hunt this year.”

A big tradition for many people on Easter is going to church services, but those have also been canceled.

“What I usually do on Easter is spend time with my family and go to the Easter services at church, but this year we are just hanging at home,” Schnelle said.

Freshman Hayden Winters added: “We go to church and do the whole Easter bunny thing. We probably won’t be doing much of anything this Easter due to corona.”

The holiday might not even feel relevant anymore.

“This year’s Easter is very different because no one is really in the holiday spirit, enjoying the day for what it means and in fear of the virus,” Ransom said.

There are still reassuring qualities about Easter this year to look forward to.

“This year for Easter I’m really just looking forward to finding some way to get the same time with my family in a different way,” Winters said.
