Teaching while in quarantine

ASL teacher Katie Murphy might be quarantined, but she’s still teaching

From the couch, to school and now back on the couch.

It has been a journey for ASL teacher Katie Murphy, who is in quarantine. As a result, she’s fully remote but all her classes are in-person.

It has been a “surreal” experience for Murphy.

“I really enjoyed the interaction I had with my students while we were all together in-person,” Murphy said.

But on Sept. 23, Murphy spent her first school day quarantined after an extended family member that she had been in close contact with became sick. Now a substitute sits in her classroom with students while Murphy teaches.

Murphy, who is an energetic teacher and always does her best to include every single student in her classes, said she is looking at this moment as a “trial run” to what could happen if DHS moves to remote again.
