Just two weeks after returning from winter break, the varsity and junior varsity boys basketball teams went into quarantine on Thursday due to Covid-19.

Tonight’s game against Newton has been postponed, and the Dodge City tournament games scheduled for next week are also on hold.

“Personally I feel it is unfortunate that this situation has occurred as a player. It definitely hurts knowing you’re going to lose games, but it’s just a bump in the road. The team and I will continue to stay in shape and pray over the situation,” junior Fontaine Williams said.

The Panthers played Tuesday, falling to Campus 84-71. A positive Covid-19 test resulted in Derby and Campus put into quarantine until Jan. 23.

The girls basketball team is now facing a similar situation with Newton. Their game tonight was also postponed due to Covid-19 issues at Newton.

“It’s frustrating, especially since we’re coming closer to the end and state, but each postponed game is a reminder to take care of business and stay safe,” junior Jada Hopson said.
