Maryn Archer’s basketball season ends with injury

Sophomore Maryn Archer, an Arkansas commit and Panthers star guard, has been sidelined for the remaining part of the season.

Archer was the second-leading scorer on the team with 9.4 points, as well as the team leader with 2.8 steals per game in five games.

Archer’s first encounter with the nagging injury appeared during the fourth game of the year in the first half against Eisenhower. Archer had dislocated her knee and was forced to sit out the remainder of the game.

“I rehabbed (my knee) all the way until Jan. 13, when I was released to play again,” Archer said.

She played against Newton on Jan. 19, where she continued to score and defend at a high-level like she was before the injury. The game went smoothly, but Archer dislocated her knee again at the ensuing day’s practice.

“The doctors said the first time that if it happened again, I’d need surgery on my patella so they can keep my kneecap in place, so it wouldn’t happen again,” she said. “And if I don’t get it operated on this time, it’ll keep dislocating more frequently, so it’s better to get it done now instead of continuing to have problems.”

The Panthers play 5A powerhouse Wichita Heights on Thursday.
