Girls basketball gets two huge wins

After a 41-29 loss to the Maize Eagles in December, the Lady Panthers have hit their stride once again. The Panthers have won six straight, including wins over the previously undefeated Maize Eagles and the Heights Falcons, who have multiple future Division I players.

The Panthers locked down the Eagles in their second meeting on Jan. 22, holding them to only 24 points.

Against Heights on Jan. 28, the Panthers took care of business again. Junior Tatum Boettjer led the Panthers with 24 points, sophomore Addy Brown added 18 and senior Derryana Cobbins scored 16 as the Panthers breezed past the Falcons 64-38. It was another stellar defensive game where they allowed only 13 first-half points.

“We’ve had to adjust to some early adversity this season, but I think it’s been good for us. Everyone knows that they have to bring a little more to the table each night against these top teams, especially now that Maryn (Archer) is out,” Brown said.

Archer, who has committed to play at Arkansas, told Pantherstale.com last week that she is having season-ending surgery

The next game for the Panthers Tuesday at home against the Hutch Salthawks.
