Even with the challenges of competing during a pandemic, the boys swim team has proven that they can work through anything, together.

In order to perform better as a team, they tried to bond as best as they could, while obeying Covid-19 rules.

“Bus rides… it’s been different, it’s been harder this year. We also have a groupchat where we just talk and have fun,” senior Tim Henriques said.

Training has been tougher due to Covid-19 restrictions, too.

However, the one goal the team has shared in common is winning the AVCTL I title for the third year in a row.

Junior Will McCabe has been dominant. In three meets in December, he set the school record in the 500 freestyle again, while also setting the 200 individual medley record. He also qualified for the Class 6A meet in the 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 100 free, 500 free, while also earning consideration in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.

But it will take a deep team to win the league title.

“My biggest goal was to improve my times every meet and make it to league and now we are going to league next week,” senior Nathan Jolly said.

Jolly, who is in his first year of swim, regrets not joining sooner.

“I really wish I would’ve joined sooner in previous years. This team is a great group of talented kids and we all work well together. We haven’t gotten to do things we would’ve last year like team dinners or game nights,” Jolly said.

Jimmy Adams had to change the way he coached this year, but the team has more than impressed him.

“I am very happy with this year’s results so far. I expected this group to be successful and they have lived up to their potential so far. It won’t mean anything if we aren’t able to win the league meet for the third year in a row,” Adams said.
“… Every guy on the team has stepped up and been an important part of the program this year.”
